Alignment check

If you have a vehicle, once is a while it may need wheel alignment. Before I say anything else, let me confess I know very little about cars.I haven’t needed to as my dad and brothers have always  graciously sorted me out whenever I have made distress calls- one of those being,

“Eh my car is pulling to one side as if it wants to leave the road  into a bush or something “.

(Took me years to know where the jack is stored and even how to switch on fog lights .Don’t judge me :-))

Your steering wheel can also give you clues that you have an alignment issue,if for instance it appears off-center when you are driving straight or if it vibrates.

It is a fact, that once in a while, a vehicle in use will need a check and possible wheel alignment. Either the issue arose due to driving over pot holes, hitting curbs, maybe even a collision. Once however the wheels are aligned there won’t be uneven wear of your tyres and it will improve vehicle performance and driving stability. You will need not to fear seeing a tyre rolling off on its own only to discover its yours.

We are slightly past the middle of the year. Are you aligned to what you set  for your year so far?Maybe to ask differently, are you aligned to what God set out for you?The latter is a harder question right? At least it’s not as straight forward to me too in answering. Might this be a good time to check and realign?

See,God set out in His book what we are to do before time. If every day allotted to you and I was written in His book,He must have set out a lot more and in finer details of each right?

Psalms 139:16 says -Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written,The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them.

Jesus came to the earth to fulfill a specific assignment from His father. This assignment was written before time and He only came to do what was recorded. We see in Luke 4:17-21, how Jesus was rejected in Nazareth but this was after He went to the synagogue, was handed the book written by Prophet Isaiah and found the place written about His assignment- preaching good news to the poor, healing the broken hearted amongst others.

Vs 20 says-  Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

You know what they asked? “Is this not Joseph‘s son

In other words, really  are you saying that what is written is about you?”

Luke 4:28- So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with [m]wrath, 29 and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. 30 Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.

Remember it was also written ahead of time that John, His cousin would prepare the way for Him.

Since the word of God is our guiding principle, doesn’t it mean then that  something must be written about you and i in His book.

It was David who rose from being a shepherd boy to be a King of Israel. Recall his life was punctuated by scandals wars, family disputes, murder.Yet he too talks of fulfilling what was written of him .

Psalms 40:6-8-Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened.Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.7 Then I said, “Behold, I come;In the scroll of the book it is written of me.8 I delight to do Your will, O my God,And Your law is within my heart.”

We too can either seek to know what is written of us or  we can choose chart our own paths and  write our own books.I think though in desiring to know what’s written in His book for us will be more like us fulfilling God given destiny.

Big word…I know.

It’s taken me a long time to understand that God reveals this to us in part as we walk with Him.In fact I am still learning more of what walking in our God given destinies  means and checking with the  Lord.

In my simplistic way of understanding, this may be as simple as fulfilling an  assignment  be it in your  family, a calling  sometimes aligned to God’s gifting to you, seasons which He may send you to certain places to do something-even walk with someone .God may help you live it out through an aspect of your business ,your career,a ministry, your marital life.I think He reveals it to us in part and as we submit to Him in obedience -ultimately we will have lived what He wrote.

So back to the wheel alignment example. Our vehicles of destiny, these being our lives will often need an alignment check. Every now and then going back to God to ask,

Am I where I am supposed to be Lord at this time? Are my plans  aligned to your plans for me?Have a veered off the track from what you envisioned for me? Is my vehicle turning left because the wheels have an issue or are you re directing the path am to drive on“.

My sister jokes that I write a phd thesis every end of the year as I take time off from everything. And truly I write down a lot, some of which I don’t accomplish but it helps me visualize. In some way, helps put a check as time passes. It’s more like a habit but I just believe it’s easier to do something when written.Anyway the bible says when its written down a herald can run with it and I believe help us accomplish. Maybe you dislike writing and possibly just have your plans as mental notes made at the beginning of the year or whichever time you made them.

Perhaps consider checking if you and God are on the same page? You can always review your life or facets of your life at any point you desire.

Proverbs 4:26 says Ponder the path of your feet,And let all your ways be established.

Maybe there have been significant changes in your first six months . Perhaps not what you had envisioned.Could be in a positive way, in that you God surprised you  or maybe it was in a negative way. God sometimes redirects in critical  moments or seasons. He may redirect your vehicle to a different path altogether or realigning you to His path. There could be nothing wrong with your vehicle or your initial plans and He just needs you to be still for Him to make everything beautiful.

See whenever we involve God in anything from the start and even invite Him to drive the vehicle with us, we can count on Him to ride with us til the final destination.God can’t just bail out or abandon what you and I involved him in- in the first place.

Since it was written in His book before He put you here what He desired for you to accomplish, who to accomplish it with, where to accomplish it, could this be a good time  to take your vehicle to the Father for an alignment check? You for sure don’t want to proceed on the second half only to find out that you put all your energies driving up a road that God never set for you to drive on in the first place. While you speak to God about it, He may just confirm that you are on the right track. That you are where you need to be. Or that the new opportunity before you or soon to open up is the reason you had to face what looked like a setback. Aren’t His thoughts always greater than ours! It could even be simply God giving you rest for you to see something else you have never seen. It’s like when one is driving in the country side-you might not see the beauty of the scenery but if you are at rest ,with perhaps someone else  driving, you might just notice how beautiful the escarpments are while the sun is setting against them in the horizon.
